Updating the new web site..

Today started wet, so the perfect day to knuckle down and get to grips with the new operating system for the website. Videos watched, and instruction/help topics read, and we're in.

The diary has been updated, but if you have any events you want adding, just let me know via the contact page.
The Scourie News site has updated too, with editions added back to last November.
The Community Council page has been updated, with minutes from meetings added. There are some gaps, which I hope to fill soon.

And I've started this blog, which I will update with new additions to the web pages.
You may have noticed the pop up message advertising the Car Treasure Hunt, organised by the Gala Committee, to raise funds for this years Gala weekend. There will be a BBQ awaiting entrants on their return at the football pitch. There will also be a fancy dress disco with licenced bar.

The Gala Committee have bought  two gazebos, for the Gala day, to add more tented cover for stalls. It is likely that these will be available for private hire.

I will also post details of a job vacancy for the upcoming election, and West Sutherland Fisheries Trust have also asked me to add a Fishing Conservation poster..

Today, Jean, Alistair and Donald attended a day long "Stronger Scotland" event in Lairg. £15,000 of funding was available to projects in our area, with a maximum grant of £2,000 available for worthy projects. Participants were given a 2 minute slot to put forward their case for needing the money, and attendees voted on which project should receive funding. 41 applications were made, with a total value over four times the available funding.

I'm pleased to announce that Jeans application was successful, and £2,000 has been gained towards upgrading the toilets in the village hall.

Well done to all..

WSFT have published a poster regarding fishing on the local rivers, and the "catch and return" policies that have been implemented to help conserve fish stocks.

All fishermen/women are asked to study this, and follow the guidelines.

The poster can be found on the flyfishing page in the "Activities" tab.

A dull day with light periods of rain, so a good day to settle down and update some of these web pages. Really getting used to the software now (need to play with these things to get used to them!), so if you can suggest any changes that I can make, I'll try and do them!

I've added another "pop-up" to advertise the next village event, the NW Shinty 6's tournament, and Ceilidh after. I hope you can make it and have a great time.

I've also found a "statistical report" with shows the number of site views. Also available are the locations of the browsers, and type of device used. Around 60% of views are still on a normal computer, and tablets and mobile phones are equally spread with 20% views each. In the last month there have been over 1000 visitors to the site, and they average 3 page views each.

Two thirds of visitors are from the UK, and about 20% from the USA. There have been 6 visits from Germany, 5 from France, Spain and Italy. And there have also been visits from Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and Ghana! (plus more).

It just goes to prove that the internet is a major source of information for tourists to our wonderful area.
If you have decided to come to visit Scourie after researching on the web, I hope you enjoy yourself and have a great time.
