Scourie Community Development Company

At a well attended public meeting in the Village Hall on 9th June 2011, a steering group was elected and tasked with creating an organisation dedicated to promoting sustainable development within the geographical area covered by the Scourie Community Council.

There soon followed the formation of Scourie Community Development Company Ltd (SCDC Ltd), registered at Companies House, Edinburgh on 24th Jan 2012. After further public meetings, a plan of varied development proposals was drawn up. The company achieved Charitable status (SCO43558) with effect from 13th Nov 2012.

Membership is open to all persons aged 16 or over resident within the Scourie & District Community Council area, with 78 members as at April 2016.

A number of projects have been started and/or completed.

Scourie Harbour: A project started by the Scourie and Badcall Grazings Committee, with funding through LEADER, Scourie Estate, and Highland Council, a ten year lease of the pier was arranged, and works undertaken to repair the pier. A picnic area, and information boards have also been created. Stage 2 of the project is intended to further improve accessibility, surveys have been taken to identify further possabilities for improvements.

Woodland footpaths: In 2013, a footpath was created from the Highland Council depot to loch A' Bhadaidh Daraich, with a branch leading to a viewpoint at Cnoc a' Bhuthain. A further path linking to the old Peat road has been partially upgraded, with hopes for completion once funding is found. The paths also have way markers, and provision for a further picnic site.

Scourie Sports Pavilion: Featuring high on the list of objectives, the Sports Pavilion Project was completed in April 2014, with funding of £300,000+ secured from Highland LEADER, HIE, The Highland Council, The Lady Jane Grosvenor Trust, The Anne, Duchess of Westminster Charity and The Westminster Foundation, and is now a valuable community asset.
The Pavilion is managed by a very able sub-committee of SCDC Ltd, and is regularly used by local schools, clubs, The North West Sutherland League and Kinlochbervie Camanach. The Committee have also established an annual Summer Gala held at the Sports Field.
