How to see a Doctor

All surgeries are by appointments. Occasionally, when their medical condition warants it, some patients may be given priority. If you cannot keep your appointmnt or it is no longer needed, please telephone to cancel so your appointmentmay be allocated to another patient.

Visits

Home visits are made to those whose medical condition makes it necessary. Modern medicine is best practiced in facilities designed and adapted for the purpose and so it is in the patient's best interest of attend at surgery whenever possible. If you do require a visit please assess your situationearly in the day and make your request during the morning surgery. In order that the doctor can assess priority please be prepared to give the reception staff a brief indication of the nature of your problem.

Emergencies

There is a doctor available locally 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, who can be contacted on 01971 521260. Listen carefully to the recorded message for instructions on who and where to ring for the doctor on call. You may not always be sure of what constitutes an emergency. In this case telephone the doctor on call and advice will be given; if needed, arrangements will be made to see the patient either at home or in the surgery. NHS 24 will also give advice. In the unlikely event that the doctor is already out on a call, you will need to choose from the following options: wait and try again, leave a message on voicemail, or dial 999. Some weekends, or on Thursday afternoon, te emergency service is provided by the practice at Durness. Remember, the doctor may be called away to immediate emergencies during surgery hours. Your cooperation  and understanding at these times would be appreciated.

Prescriptions

Your prescriptions will normally be dispensed at the time of consultation. Occasionally there may be supply problems and a short delay may occur. Every effort will be made to supply your medicines as soon as possible.

Repeat Prescriptions

For conditions requiring continuous treatment, medication can be supplied without seeing the doctor on each occasion. In these circumstancesyou would normally expect to have your medication reviewed by the doctor - usually every six months but at least annually. Requests can be made by telephone, post, or in person. During surgery times callers in person will have to wait or call back. Medicines will not be given out until checked by the doctor which is done at the end of surgery. When requesting repeats, please read or spell out drug names from the computer list or the label on the container. To ensure continuity please order your medicines when you have no less than one week's supply left. Medicines can be collected from the surgeries during surgery times.
